i recently opened a big box of things that i collected when i was growing up - birthday cards, an old karate belt, *countless half-filled journals*, girl scout badges, the list goes on. it's a big box. it holds all these different **parts** **of me**.

i also started therapy again recently and my therapist \[let's call her jo\] asked me if i was ready to *meet these parts*. i remembered she had brought this up when i was seeing her back in 2021 too, but clearly it didn’t land then the way it did now.

get this - there can be hundreds of these parts that make up who we are. each built from moments in our lives that taught us stories about ourselves, about the world… each built to help us in some way, sometimes to protect us or carry us through surviving something.

i imagine if you tried to draw it out on paper, it would be this giant diagram with clusters of chaotic circles everywhere, some connected, some not. and of course the part of me ;) that wants to understand it all wants to draw out my chaotic diagram. in vivid detail.

who knows... it could be fun!...and thus begins my blog series: the **parts of me**.

jo put this book ‘no bad parts’ on my therapy reading list. she recommended it to me after i tried to tell her that i’m ready to let go of some of these parts that aren’t serving me anymore.

well apparently the work is not about letting those parts go…it’s about saying hello and getting to know them, maybe giving them a little hug, letting them know that they are seen and that they are safe.

so here’s the plan: as i run into these parts, i’ll document a little bit about them. sometimes 10 words, sometimes a love letter. depends on how i feel about them.

this series is for the girl who started but never finished a journal cover to cover, who emailed herself thoughts to read back, who has thousands of drafts sitting in the notes app, and who has opened 3 different wordpress accounts. i think she has been waiting to be seen for a long time.
